Tariffs USA – Part 8
New global tariffs of 10 percent have come into force in the US. President Donald Trump ordered the measure following a Supreme Court ruling that prohibited the use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) for tariff purposes.
The new tariffs are now based on Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 and will remain in effect from February 24 to July 24, 2026, unless Congress decides to extend them.
An increase to 15 percent announced in the meantime has not yet been implemented, as a formal order to that effect is still pending. US media reports, citing Bloomberg, say the White House is working on another regulation. However, no specific timetable for a possible increase has been announced yet.
