News Sea freight: Disruptions and military presence in the Red Sea

Following two attacks on a container ship, the largest shipping companies Maersk, Hapag-Lloyd and MSC decided to reroute all ships. Transit times on routes that normally use the Suez Canal will be extended by at least seven to ten days.

The price of oil is rising due to the new tensions. Since the beginning of the war in the Gaza Strip, merchant ships in the Red Sea have been increasingly attacked by rebels in Yemen. Unfortunately, the expected effects of the attacks include:

  1. Extended transit times
  2. Interruptions to global oil supplies
  3. Problems with stockpiles

Various countries, including the US, have increased their military presence in the region to counter further attempts to attack ships. We are keeping an eye on events and will keep you informed.
