Toll doubled in Germany

The truck toll in Germany is set to be supplemented with a CO2 component from 1 December 2023. This component would correspond to an approximate doubling of the toll, warns the Federal Association of Road Haulage, Logistics and Disposal (BGL), which currently rejects the “effective doubling of the toll due to the lack of climate control effect,” the industry association explained. The BGL criticized that something is being propagated as a climate protection measure that is not at all. Climate impact is “not foreseeable in the next few years, as there are currently no vehicles with alternative drives or the corresponding refueling and charging infrastructure.” At the same time, the BGL expects a noticeable increase in costs for the final consumer, and this, according to the BGL, “in return for nothing”. This makes the medium-sized transport companies feel degraded to “pure collection agencies”.
