The first American film in which a toilet flush was used was Psycho, a horror film from 1960, produced and directed by Alfred Hitchcock. The leading roles are played by Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, Vera Miles, John Gavin, and Martin Balsam. The plot centers on the encounter between fugitive thief Marion Crane (Leigh), shy motel owner Norman Bates (Perkins), and his disturbed mother Norma. A private detective (Balsam), Marion’s lover Sam Loomis (Gavin), and her sister Lila (Miles) investigate her disappearance.
